| Our family arrived in
New Zealand from England in 1907. Our Grandfather started a Milk Factory in
Devonport and brought in a Pasteurizing system. The ice cream
manufacturing plant followed in 1930. The recipe being brought from
America, but the name Eldora was derived from the old English ice cream
Eldorado. The business involved all the family members. Jennifer and
Coralie were born in Devonport and have a long history of the area.

| The Old Devonport Ferry
boat now retired, commuted many thousands of workers and shoppers to the
city each day. |
Fort
Takapuna is part of the old army base. This is an interesting walk
just up from Narrow Neck beach. It has lots of interesting buildings
and forts and also a wonderful view overlooking the Waitemata harbour and
Rangitoto Island. Three gun turrets overlook the harbour entrance. |

Looking up the street
from the Ferry building we see Mt. Victoria, one of the mountains
overlooking the harbour and city of Auckland. Historic Esplanade
Hotel on the left side which has recently been refurbished. Devonport
has many artists who live and work in the area. |

| The Old clock
which stands by the harbour and at the end of Church Street was erected in
March 1936. It keeps very good time. |
A stunning view of Mt.
Victoria from the crater of Mt. Cambria with the Church Street houses
nestled amongst the trees. |

| A lovely view of
Rangitoto from Narrow Neck beach. This is a great day trip with a walk
up to the summit or go on the train most of the way and a short walk gets
you to the top in 15 minutes. |
